At the new campus, there were many more opportunities for excellence in athletics. Women were first offered the chance to be involved in collegiate sports on the new campus and men had greater chances for participation. With men returning home from the war, competition reached a new level as many of them were involved in collegiate sports. Also on the new campus, Furman unified its mascot and all teams were known as the Paladins.
