An excellent 13 volume encyclopedia covering all aspects of medieval history. This work was written by leading medieval historians and includes bibliographies. This would serve as an appropriate starting point for research on any topic in medieval history.

This massive, multivolume work was compiled from 1911 to 1967. Organized roughly chronologically and topically, this work contains a wealth of detailed information on topics in medieval history.

Humanities Abstracts/Full-Text Humanities Abstracts indexes about 400 English language journals in a wide variety of subjects including history, archaeology, classical studies, folklore, and religion. About 96 of the journals indexed are full text.
International Medieval Bibliography IMB is the most comprehensive index of medieval history resources available, covering 4500 journals. The database does not include the full text of articles. The journals covered are in many language, so you may wish to limit the language to English when searching.
Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance Iter provides an in-depth index to over a thousand journals related to medieval and renaissance history, as well as selected books and other materials.
M.L.A. BibliographyBibliographic records pertaining to literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. The MLA International Bibliography provides access to scholarly research in over 3,000 journals and series. It also covers relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies, and other formats. Although the "M" stands for "Modern" it indexes many journals which include medieval topics.

This database is available on CD-ROM at the Circulation Desk. It contains citations of all known scholarly work published in any language anywhere in the world in the areas of Greek and Latin scholarship.

    Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies The ORB includes a variety of resources for medieval scholars and students. It is intended as a teaching resource.
    Digital Scriptorium Hosted by Columbia University, this is an image database, of medieval and renaissance manuscripts that unites scattered resources from many institutions into an international tool for teaching and scholarly research.

    Internet Medieval Sourcebook This site is divided into Selected Sources, Full Text Sources, Saints' Lives, Law Texts, and Maps.
    Catalog of Digitized Medieval Manuscripts The Catalogue of Digitized Medieval Manuscripts offers a simple and straightforward means to discover medieval manuscripts available on the web. Very much a work in progress, the database will initially provide links to hundreds of manuscripts, which we expect quickly to grow to thousands.
