Humanities Abstracts Humanities Abstracts indexes about 400 English language journals in a wide variety of subjects including history. Indexing goes back to 1984.
America: History & Life America: History and Life provides historical coverage of the United States and Canada. It indexes over 2000 English language journals. Indexing goes back to 1964. This database also includes book and media reviews.
Historical Abstracts Historical Abstracts covers world history (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to present. It indexes academic historical journals in over 40 languages published since 1955.

Reference sources, journal articles and primary documents of all areas of American History

Oxford African-American Studies Center A comprehensive collection of scholarship focusing on the lives and events which have shaped African American and African history and culture. Includes 7,500 articles. The core content includes Africana, which presents an account of the African and African American experience in five volumes.
International Medieval Bibliography IMB is the most comprehensive index of medieval history resources available, covering 4500 journals. The database does not include the full text of articles. The journals covered are in various European languages, so you may wish to limit the language to English when searching.
Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance Iter provides an in-depth index to over a thousand journals related to medieval and renaissance history, as well as selected books and other materials.
JSTOR
JSTOR is a full-text database of major scholarly journals going back their first issues, some of which appeared in the 19th century.
American Periodical Series Digitized images of the pages of American magazines and journals published from colonial days to the dawn of the 20th century.
Reader's Guide Retrospective This database indexes selected general interest periodicals (magazines, newspapers, journals), from 1890 to the 1980's. This is an excellent way to locate contemporary accounts of historical events. This database does not include the full text of the articles; however, most of the titles indexed are available in print form in the library.
New York Times Historical
This database includes the full image of all articles from the entire historical run of the New York Times from 1851 up to 5 years ago.
Washington Post Historical Full-image of all articles including ads found in the Washington Post from 1877 up to 15 years ago.
Chicago Tribune Historical Full-image coverage 1849-1985
Atlanta Constitution Historical Full-image coverage 1868-1929
The archive covers all major international historical events from the French Revolution to the Falkland War. Provides the full-text of the entire newspaper, including articles, editorials and advertising.
