Books
To find books on your topic, use ALCUIN, the Library's online catalog. ALCUIN supports standard database search techniques, including Boolean Operators (AND, OR), Nesting (using parentheses), and Truncation (using the asterisk *). You might, for example, might want to do a keyword search such as the following:

(utopia* or dystopia*) and (america* or united states)

To do an in-depth search for essays in collections in the library, you can use Essay and General Literature Index. The Furman Library has most of the books indexed in this database, and it will search Alcuin automatically.
To search for books at other libraries, you can use WorldCat, which includes books from all of the major libraries in the United States and Canada. You can order books from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan books usually arrive in about 10 days.
