The Furman Library has been invited to join The Oberlin Group. It is an informal consortium of the libraries of 80 selective liberal arts colleges. "The primary purposes of the consortium are to discuss library issues of common concern, share information on best practices in library operations and services, license electronic resources of interest to member institutions, and to cooperate in resource sharing."
This past fall the library started a subscription to RefWorks, a bibliographic management tool, to meet the growing research needs of Furman faculty, staff, and students. Noodlebib, our old bibliographic management software was sorely missed, and asked for by name. In response to popular demand and in recognition of the various levels of user needs, the library has re-started its subscription to Noodlebib. See a librarian at the Research Assistance desk for assistance with Noodlebib or RefWorks.
The results of a survey taken by Furman seniors in June of 2006 indicated that this group of students was satisfied with library facilities, resources and services. The library received a rating of 95% "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with library facilities and resources. A rating of 93% "satisfied" or "very satisfied" was attained for library services. These ratings show an increase in satisfaction from 2005 by several percentage points and a significant increase from 1997 when the ratings were 59% and 55%. Ninety-three percent of Furman seniors completed the survey. During the renovation of Plyer the collection of the Science Reading Room will be housed in both Plyler and the Main Library.
