There are two basic options
available to you if the item you need is not in the Furman University
Libraries; PASCAL
Delivers or Interlibrary
Loan. These two services work together to provide you
with quick, easy access to items not in our collections.
For Books:
1. Double-check the Furman
library catalog
to make sure the book is not here. It is sometimes helpful to check
by title and by author. If you determine the book is not in our collections,
2. Check PASCALcat
to see if the book is available at a South Carolina Academic library
via PASCAL Delivers. If the book is available in South Carolina, submit
your request directly from the catalog. Your book will be delivered
to the Furman main library in about 5 days. If the book is not available
via PASCAL Delivers,
3. Submit an Interlibrary
Loan request to the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
office. The ILL staff will search for a potential lender throughout
the United States or beyond, if necessary.
For Articles:
1. Check the library's
E-Journal list
to determine if the article you need is available electronically from
one or more of the many databases that the library subscribes to.
2. If the article is not
available electronically, search the library
catalog for the JOURNAL title to determine if the library
has a print subscription to the journal needed. Be careful to note
the date, volume/ issue of the article you want. If we subscribe to
the journal, the library catalog record will tell you where the volume/issue
is located; Bound periodicals, Current Periodicals, Microfilm, Microfiche
or other location. If the journal is not available in the catalog,
3. Submit an Interlibrary
Loan request to the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
office.
If you don't have time
to wait for an item to be delivered to you, either through PASCAL
Delivers or Interlibrary Loan, feel free to visit
other libraries in the area to see if they might have the
item.
We encourage you to read
about our interlibrary loan
policies and procedures.
