Hidden among the University's lush green landscape and stately Georgian architecture are pieces of art and antiques that rival those found in some of the country's finest museums. Unbeknownst to many, Furman has a collection of decorative and fine art materials that is both extensive and diverse. Comprised of over 2,700 objects, it includes everything from 4,000-year-old oil lamps to paintings by some of America's most well known nineteenth-century artists. Spanning time and space, Furman's Decorative and Fine Arts Collection includes objects from five different continents and forty-six countries. All of the objects connect Furman to the wider world and are gateways to studying many different time periods, cultures, and disciplines.

Furman’s Decorative and Fine Arts Collections are maintained by the University Collections Manager and the Decorative and Fine Arts Committee (DFAC). The University Collections Manager and DFAC exist not only to protect these pieces but to share their stories with the University community and beyond.

The University Collections Manager’s office is located in the Special Collections and Archives suite, on the second floor of the James B. Duke Library.
