Systems

Mission

The systems department supports the other library departments in their mission to provide outstanding library services to the students, faculty, and staff of Furman University by managing the library's information technology infrastructure. In pursuit of this goal, Systems works closely with the university's Computing and Information Services department. Some examples of specific Systems Department responsibilities include:

• managing Alcuin, an integrated library system based upon Innovative Interfaces, Inc.'s Millennium software)
• managing the library's Windows-based servers
• managing the library's web site
• managing the library's 130+ PCs and their associated peripherals
• integrating technology into library services
• formerly, serving 30 CD-ROM volumes of 15 SilverPlatter and H.W. Wilson journal article databases to the 16 Associated Colleges of the South through the Palladian Alliance's Mellon Foundation grant
