Biographical Sketch

Ronald Moran was born in Philadelphia but spent much of his youth in New Britain, Connecticut, where he moved when he was 10 years old. After earning his BA from Colby College, he received his MA and PhD from Louisiana State University. Though he did hold a faculty position at the University of North Carolina for nine years, he spent most of his professional career at Clemson University, which he joined in 1975. At Clemson, he served in a variety of positions, including Associate Dean and Head of the English Department. He retired in 1998, but returned to Clemson briefly in November of 1999 in the position of Interim Dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, where he served until retiring again in September of 2000. Moran has published seven books of poetry, along with one book of literary criticism, and he has coauthored a book of literary criticism. In addition, his poems and essays have appeared in various magazines, including Commonweal, Northeast, The North American Review, Northwest Review, The South Carolina Review, and The Southern Review. Moran has two children and five grandchildren. He lives in Simpsonville, South Carolina, with his wife Jane.

Scope and Content

The Ronald Moran papers consist of books, poems and essays, published and unpublished, that he authored, as well as correspondence, magazines in which he has published work, and miscellaneous items that are relevant to his career as an author. These papers and other materials were donated by Ronald Moran during his lifetime.
