Reference/Instruction

Mission

The mission of the Reference Department is to provide and generate public services of the greatest breadth and quality possible to Furman University's students, faculty and staff. The reference services are the backbone of these endeavors, and will be as inclusive as possible in ordering and locating accurate as well as challenging resources, and answering the research and curricular needs of the library's users. Foremost in these efforts is teaching classes which prepare users in the proper range of skills and analysis needed in using information technology and conducting research. In reference, as in the whole library, we are especially dedicated to establishing awareness of the need for information literacy throughout the university.

The Reference Department provides research assistance and research/information fluency instruction.
