Use the Library's guide to Resources for Music Education
Research as your starting point.
Helpful hints for searching online databases:
- Remember that you can look for two kinds of articles -- articles about the goals and
articles about their implementation. Decide which kind of article you want and
search accordingly.
- Use keyword searching for easily-distinguished terms and phrases, such as
"Goals 2000" and subject searching for terms and concepts related to
implementation, such as "improvisation".
- When you find an article that is close to what you want, use the subject headings or
descriptors from that article to create a new search for similar articles.
- Use the words and, or, and sometimes not to combine terms and
get more specific.
- And means the article must have both words and will return a smaller number of
results.
- Or means the article must have one or the other word and will return a larger
number of results.
- Not can be tricky, for you can accidentally exclude citations that really are
what you want.

education research. IIMP and Music Index include education articles from the musical
perspective.
