A Message from the Director
Message from the
Director
The Furman University Libraries have undergone
significant, positive changes over the past four years. In 2004 we completed an
award-winning expansion and renovation of the James B. Duke Library.
In 2005 the Center for Teaching and Engaged
Learning (CTEL) came into existence. Housed in the Duke Library, we have
enjoyed opportunities to partner with the CTEL in faculty development programs.
In addition, planning for the new
science library began.
In 2006 our online system ALCUIN was upgraded to provide greater
functionality and we were invited to join the
Oberlin Group. In 2007 we
welcomed our new
associate director,
updated our
mission statement
and goals and developed a strategic plan.
We are on the threshold of more change!
We will be working assiduously to create a compelling library experience
that not only allows you to effectively and confidently navigate through an
unprecedented abundance of information, encourages you to engage in
collaborative learning experiences, and prepares you to be a life-long learner.
In order to reach these objectives, the library will implement the goals
identified in our new strategic plan which will be our guide for the next three
to five years. In the process of implementing its goals, the library will
identify new and better ways to support the curriculum and
help the university attain its goals.
Libraries continue to be a hybrid environment
containing both print resources and the ever-proliferating digital resources.
The amount of information available is can
be overwhelming and the information landscape is constantly changing. Students
are understandably anxious about knowing where to begin their research.
To address these concerns, the Library is focusing its resources and
expertise to provide research
assistance and
information fluency instruction
The faculty and staff of the Furman Libraries are committed to providing
outstanding resources, services and facilities to the university community.
Let us know how we can help you.
